2 A Guide to Consulting Offer: From Zero to Hero By ONG MBK EBA18 Section 1 Knowledge to Start 1. You should understand how the case interview is really conducted and solved so that you can start practicing case interview. Here are useful resources: • “Case Interview Secrets” by Victor Cheng - You can read it if you have plenty of time. Although it is not very straight to the point you need, its anecdotes are really fun to read somehow. • “Hacking the Case Interview” by Taylor Warfield - You can read it if you are very new to the case interview. It is very straight to the point you need. If you have no idea at all how to solve the case, you can start using its approach to solve the case before developing your own approach. However, you should not stick with its approach to the end but try to develop your own approach. • Learn (almost) all math formulas you need from https://www.hackingthecaseinterview.com/pages/case-interview- formulas • Watch mock case interview video o Quick ones (These show how the pefect candidates look like. Please don’t be intermidated with their skills!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fj2oi_Hxq8&t=38s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psuKyBsH1oo&t=634s o Crafting Cases List https://www.craftingcases.com/case-interview-examples/ 2. Then, you should learn more techniques to solve the case interview. Here are useful resources: • “Case Interview 101: The Online Guidebook” by MConsultingPrep (https://mconsultingprep.com/case-interview) - This is a must-read website for me. It is very comprehensive and also includes business review for non-business candidates. There is also a link to their Youtube video in every section in case that you prefer not to read. • Subscribe to Crafting Cases Newsletter (https://www.craftingcases.com/free-course-hp/#start-here-hplp) 3. I would recommend you take Dr. Oliver Gottschall’s course if you can or read slides from his course if you have plenty of time. I haven’t finished reading it but found it good. It gives you a very good fundamental for business strategy. Journey Support 1. Mental Support Your journey will be very similar to the Dunning-Krueger effect. When you feel desperate, I would recommend you talk more to your family, friends, or even your significant other. I can guarantee you that everyone has to pass through this process, so you should keep in mind that this is normal and don’t panic. When you are bored or tired with solving cases, I would recommend you take a little break and do something else. This is because you should always stay craving for challenging cases when solving them to maximize your performance. However, if case interviews are not fun for you, consulting may not be the right career path for you as well. Let me tell you one anecdote here. I was having so much fun solving cases with one case partner that we always tried to find the most challenging case to mock for each other. It was like a little competition between us to find a case that

Spiritual Support Your journey will depend on luck as well such as who is your interviewer, when is your interview, and what is the industry of the case. Here is my recommended list for you to visit: • Luang Phor Sothorn (Wat Sothorn) - Offer 100 boiled eggs for each MBB firm’s offer • Wat Phra Kaew + Bangkok City Pillar Shrine • The Golden Mount (Wat Saket) • Lakshmi Shrine (Gaysorn Plaza) • Erawan Shrine • Blood Donation at Thai Red Cross • Coffin Donation at Wat Hua Lumphong 3. Meditation Support Although I haven’t practiced meditation that much during the journey, I was recommended and would recommend you do so to improve 2 important things: • Concentration skill - You will be bombarded with a lot of information that you need to process not only quickly but also precisely • Ability to stay calm under pressure - You will feel worried and nervous before, during, and after interviews which certainly affect your case performance 4. Technical Support If you have questions regarding the process, you can reach out to your seniors in MBB firms or those who have applied for MBB firms before. You can also read post/comments on PrepLounge which is Pantip/Reddit of consulting industry. 5. Knowledge Support My two favorite resources are Crafting Cases and MConsultingPrep. They have both websites and Youtube videos for you to watch. When you have questions regarding the preparation, you can type your question followed by either Crafting Cases or MConsultingPrep on Google. Moreover, I would recommend you listen to Crafting Cases podcast on Spotify. This is like a cherry on top that allows you to learn some good miscellaneous techniques and improve you from a good candidate to an excellent candidate. I found this in the very end of the journey but found it really useful and insightful. Bruno and Julio’s accents are easy to listen. You can listen to them during meals, travel, and gym. 6. Health Support Your health is one of the most important factors that affect your case performance. I would recommend you try to be careful of what you eat and how much you sleep, especially on the day before the interview.
