What was life like during the Japanese Occupation?

The campaign in Bataan lasted for three months. Despite the heroic fighting by Filipino soldiers on the front line, malaria and other tropical diseases ravaged the soldiers, and rations were increasingly reduced to stretch the food supply. Faced with the inevitability of defeat, Quezon and MacArthur were evacuated from the Philippines in March. The defenders of Bataan and Corregidor would have to fend for themselves. Corregidor stood for a month longer, but the Japanese pounded it almost daily by air and artillery fire. The Japanese mounted an invasion, and on May 6, 1942, it was all over. The USAFFE surrendered all organized resistance was ordered to cease. The Philipines was in Japanese hands.
