3 Section 7 : In fifteen years, Benjamin’s business had grown significantly, and he later joined the army, obtaining a commission as a captain. At that time, Hildegarde was thirty-five years old and their son Roscoe was fourteen. Their relationship seemed to have reversed—Benjamin was growing younger, while Hildegarde was not. Section 8 : Time went on, Benjamin was getting younger and younger—now he looked like a thirty-year-old man, and his son had recently graduated from Harvard. These two kinda looked similar. He probably liked himself more now; he could enjoy society and social life more, and he was planning to pass his business on to his son. But sometimes, being with his wife didn’t satisfy him, so their relationship was going down. Section 9 : In 1910, Benjamin studied at Harvard and played football, but it was difficult for him because he kept getting younger and younger. After receiving his diploma, he had the idea to continue his studies at St. Midas’s school. Roscoe, his son, treated him like he wasn’t really his father—because by then, Benjamin looked even younger than him. Meanwhile, Hildegarde was living in Italy. Their relationship had grown distant. Section 10 : Benjamin got a letter from the army asking him to return to service, but no one believed he had ever been in a war—because, once again, he looked too young. His dream failed. He was rejected by his son as a father, and by the army as a soldier. Section 11 : In 1920, Benjamin had a grandson. Five years later, he and his grandson entered kindergarten together. He could feel what kids felt, and then he became a baby who didn’t understand anything. He stayed with Nana, his nurse, and gradually forgot about his past life. Then everything faded from his mind.
