Brachial plexus o Roots: C5, C6, C7, C8, T1 o Trunks: - C5 and C6 unite to form upper trunk. - C7 alone forms middle trunk. - C8 and T1 unite to form lower trunk. o Divisions: each trunk divides into anterior and posterior divisions. o Cords: - All posterior divisions unite to form the posterior cord. - The anterior divisions of the upper and middle trunks unite to form the lateral cord. - The anterior division of the lower trunk forms the medial cord. o Branches: ✓ Branches of the Roots: - C5: Nerve to Rhomboids. - C5,6, 7: Nerve to Serratus anterior (Long thoracic n.) - All roots: Nerve to Scalene muscles. ✓ Branches of the upper trunk: (2 S) - Suprascapular nerve - Nerve to Subclavius. ✓ Branches of the cords: o Posterior cord: (ULNAR) - Upper subscapular - Lower subscapular - Nerve to latissimus dorsi (Thoracodorsal n.) - Axillary nerve - Radial nerve o Relations of brachial plexus: - Roots: posterior to scalenus anterior muscle in the posterior triangle of the neck. - Trunks: related to subclavian artery. - Divisions: posterior to middle 1/3 of clavicle. - Cords: related to axillary artery in the axilla. Medial cord C8,T1 Lateral cord C5,6,7 Medial pectoral nerve Lateral pectoral nerve Medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm Musculocutaneous nerve Medial root of median nerve Lateral root of median nerve Ulnar nerve. Musculocutaneous nerve Median nerve Ulnar nerve Radial nerve Starts on the lateral aspect of the arm then pierces coracobrachialis ms. Starts on the posterior aspect of the arm then passes in the spiral groove then anterolateral to lateral epicondyle. Starts on the medial aspect of the arm then passes posterior to the medial epicondyle. Starts lateral to the brachial artery then passes in front of it to become medial. (lateral → Anterior → medial). Course Between 2 heads of triceps. Between 2 heads of flexor carpi ulnaris Between 2 heads of pronator teres Between brachialis and biceps Between brachialis and brachioradialis Between flexor digitorum profundus and flexor carpi ulnaris Between flexor digitorum profundus and superficialis Posterior Interosseus n.
