GRAMMAR: THE PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE - Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past continuous tense) dùng để diễn tả một hành động, sự việc đang diễn ra xung quanh một thời điểm trong quá khứ. 1. Cấu trúc Câu khẳng định S + was/were + V-ing. Câu phủ định S + was/were + not + V-ing. Câu nghi vấn Was/Were + S + V-ing...? - Yes, S + was/ were. - No, S + wasn’t/ weren’t. Câu hỏi Wh-question Wh + was/were + S + V-ing...? - S + was/ were + ... - S + wasn’t/weren’t + ... - Learn how to form and use them. - Review. - Take notes them. - Learn how to use them.

Diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra tại một thời điểm trong quá khứ. My father was watching TV at 7 o’clock last night. This time last year, we were living in Cat Ba. b. Diễn tả những hành động xảy ra đồng thời trong quá khứ. Jim was listening to music while his mother was cooking in the kitchen. c. Diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra thì có hành động khác xen vào. They were having dinner when I came. They were waiting for the bus when the accident happened. d. Diễn tả một hành động từng lặp đi lặp lại trong quá khứ và làm phiền đến người khác. Dấu hiệu nhận biết  At + giờ + thời gian trong quá khứ (at 5 o’clock yesterday,...)  At this time + thời gian trong quá khứ (at this time last year,...)  In + năm quá khứ (in 2001, in 1992)  In the past II. WISH FOR THE PRESENT (CÂU ƯỚC Ở HIỆN TẠI) - Wish for the present hay còn gọi là Wish + Past simple (Câu ước ở hiện tại) - Diễn đạt mong ước về một sự việc không có thật ở hiện tại (giả định điều ngược lại với thực tế) hoặc sự việc không thể thực hiện ở hiện tại. - Dùng thì quá khứ đơn (past simple) để diễn đạt mong ước ở hiện tại. Subject + wish (es) + subject + verb (past simple) E.g My brother wishes he was/ were a billionaire. I wish I had a car. - Dùng thì quá khứ tiếp diễn (past continuous) đế diễn tả mong muốn điều gì đó xảy ra ngay lúc nói. Subject + wish (es) + subject + verb (past continuous) E.g. She wishes she was/ were going fishing on a boat. Tom wishes he was/ were studying Biochemistry instead of Marketing.
