Sky One Hex creative brief What is Hex? Hex is a UK version of Buffy. 6, one-hour episodes following a teenager about to do her media studies exams, who discovers that she’s the last in a long line of witches with some quite spectacular powers. She unwittingly frees her nemisis and his gang from a spell and unleashes them on an unsuspecting world. Hex is set in a mixed-sex boarding school which makes everything a bit more intense and certainly more sexy – after all, no-body goes back to their family bedrooms at the end of the day. It’s more knowing and experimental than it’s US counterparts (Buffy/Angel) and much more in keeping with UK teen angst dramas such as As If which are gritty and explicit. How should we present Hex? As a sexy, supernatural, suspense drama: It’s Buffy with balls! Who are we talking to? Mostly younger viewers (16-24’s), with a female bias, who are really going to miss Buffy and Angel now they’ve come to an end. They’re going to find it hard to replace these bits of fantasy in their TV viewing lives. They loved the excitement, the suspense and the fun of it. They’ll just have to continue with Dawson’s Creek, Hollyoaks and Alias in the meantime – but these lack the thrills and total fantasy of the supernatural. What do we need? Press executions to run in both magazines (younger, female) and national press (inc. supplements & listings). Possibly posters too. Creative starters • ‘If you were a witch, would you ...’ multiple choice questions with risque choices • Show one of the gorgeous cast members and pose the question ‘would you shag him/her if you knew he/she was a ghost/demon/etc...?’ • Challenges from the current cast to historical ‘fantasy’ characters: ie. ‘Come on Buffy – I could kick you’re arse any day?’ or ‘Supermanl fights like a girl’ or ‘I once had a wear-wolf as a pet – it didn’t give me any trouble’ etc ...
