01. Problem statement
Lower UTIs in SpA patients • Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of seronegative autoimmune diseases strongly linked to the HLA-B27 antigen, characterized by chronic inflammation and joint fusion, affecting 0.2%–1.6% of the population • In SpA patients, lower urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common but often atypical or nonspecific with a high rate of silent bacteriuria • If untreated, lower UTIs may lead to serious complications, including renal dysfunction, secondary bacteremia, and worsens SpA symptoms. This complicates the management of SpA. Leila R, Alia F, Khereddine MD, et al. Lower urinary tract symptoms in rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis male patients versus controls.
