General background There are two routes to registration in the UK: A National UK application filed at the UKIPO An International application designating the UK Filing requirements must be met under Section 32(2) of the Trade Marks Act If correctly filed, then the mark is formally examined, a search of earlier marks is conducted, and the applicant advised of the result within one month If accepted, mark is then published in the Trade Marks Journal (online) If not accepted then correspondence, discussions, hearings etc. begin, but not in relation to any earlier marks identified.
