DEFINITION OF POLITICAL PARTIES: ❖ Philip Norton: “A group of persons try to seek political power by collective action.” 4. KINDS OF POLITICAL PARTIES: Here are five different types of political parties. ✓ Conservative Party: Conservative parties generally advocate for maintaining traditional values and social institutions. They prioritize limited government intervention in the economy, individual freedom, and personal responsibility. ✓ Liberal Party: Liberal parties typically support progressive policies and social change. They advocate for individual rights, equality, social justice. ✓ Socialist Party: Socialist parties advocate for a more equitable distribution of wealth and resources. They promote social ownership of key industries, strong social safety nets, and government intervention in the economy to address inequalities. ✓ Populist Party: Populist parties appeal to the interests and concerns of ordinary people.
