Prerequisites Even though creating custom routines for Dance Central is made easy with HamBuild, that doesn't mean that it's still not a somewhat complex task. Some knowledges that are not strictly required, but that will greatly help you achieve your goals include: • Some music theory knowledge, being able to identify song structures, musical sections, notes, note length (full note, quarter note, 16th of a note, etc), relationship between note length and measures and beats, tempo, etc; • Some experience with music-editing software/DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software to be able to edit audio, align and export in the right format; • Some experience with programming or scripting languages to be able to create projects to be used with HamBuild. Some additional third-party software is also recommended for the creation of projects for HamBuild: • Notepad++, a free open-source text editor for Windows Operating Systems; • FL Studio, a paid premium DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Its evaluation version allows you to use every single feature of the paid version, with the exception that you cannot open projects saved with it, but you seldom need to revisit an old song once the audio is edited. Even though it is not strictly required, it is highly recommended use Notepad++ for the creation of HamBuild project files, as definitions were designed for this text editor, enabling beautiful syntax highlighting which will greatly aid in the identification of keywords, as well as autocompletion for the name of the moves when creating custom routines.
