RMIT RESEARCH CHALLENGE 2022 ELIGIBILITY AND RULES
RULE 1: INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL PROVISIONS 1.1 CONFLICT OF INTERESTS Participants of the RMIT Research Challenge, including organizers, teams, teams members, industry mentors, faculty advisors, judges, are responsible for any conflict of interest with their participation. Conflict of interests can be seen as any impact upon an individual’s independence, ability, or rights. For example, judges with personal relationships with contestants may provide individuals with unfair advantages. Besides personal relationships, organizers, mentors, and judges are obligated to avoid pressuring participants to execute specific investment recommendations. If a conflict of interests was not timely explained and rehabilitated, every individual or team related to the conflict will receive appropriate solutions to the situation by the RRC organizers. 1.2 PLAGIARISM Plagiarism is defined as taking or copying works of other people without proper citation or referencing. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited, and the rule applies to both the written report and presentation. Specifically, teams may not: 1. Use ideas from others’ reports and papers without accurate citing and referencing. 2. Utilize charts, graphs, or tables without accurate citing and referencing. 3. Use vague terms like “leading specialists” or “top experts” without specific references. 4. Ask other people to write for them. Teams must use Harvard referencing style and the referencing style must be consistent throughout the report and presentation. Teams that are found to have committed plagiarism will be disqualified immediately. In extreme cases, the eliminated team’s university may be banned from the competition in the following year. 1.3 THIRD PARTY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHT
While using intellectual materials (charts, images, texts,...) from a third party, teams must strictly abide by all the copyright and trademark laws. Where legally bound, teams must verify the authorization of the proprietors of any trademarks used in their report or presentation. Each team must ensure that neither their report nor their presentation violates the copyright, trademark, and third party intellectual property rights. RMIT Research Challenge (RRC) grants each participant permission to use the RRC name and logo in their reports and presentations. The use of the RRC name and logo is limited to the competition materials only. Teams must not change or tamper with the RRC name or logo under any circumstances. 1.4. RIGHT TO USE PARTICIPANTS’ PERSONAL INFORMATION AND IMAGE FOR FURTHER USAGE 1.4.1 CONSENT By providing us with Personal Information, you consent to our processing and transfer of your Personal Information. Providing us your information constitutes your consent to collect, use, transfer, and share that information for the purposes described in the record where you provide the information and in this Privacy Policy. If a specific element of our processing of your Personal Information relies upon your consent you may withdraw your consent as described below in "Your Rights". 1.4.2. THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT We collect Personal Information to help us better understand your needs, provide you with personalized and efficient service and other purposes described in this Privacy Policy*. We generally obtain Personal Information directly through the information you provide to the RRC. We do not knowingly collect any Personal Information from participants under the age of 18. *See section 1.4.5 1.4.3. INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO RMIT RESEARCH CHALLENGE You may provide Personal Information to the RMIT Research Challenge in a number of ways, including: (1) upon registering for any RMIT Research Challenge’s examinations; (2) upon communicating directly with RMIT Research Challenge’s organizers by providing hard
copies of documents; and (3) upon registering for RMIT Research Challenge’s workshops or company meetings. 1.4.4. THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT Listed below are the classes of Personal Information that we collect. Please note, however, we will collect these Personal Data: ● Full Name ● Gender ● Date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY) ● University name ● Major ● Phone number ● Email address Other Personal Information is optional (but strongly recommended*): ● Educational background ● Occupation ● Job/position title ● Language skills ● Professional skills and talents *These information will be helpful for participants’ future benefits, including networking, future career, etc. 1.4.5. PURPOSES FOR WHICH WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION The purposes for which we process your Personal Information are listed below: ● Processing applications and registrations that you submit to us ● Providing examination services and administering and scoring examinations ● Marketing
