Sponges have the potential to produce active compounds as raw materials for drugs. The main challenge in the final development of sponge potential is the supply problem. An alternative that can be done is research utilizing symbiotic bacteria from sponges to find new compounds as antibiotic agents. Excessive exploitation of sponges in search of new bioactive substances can result in less conservative actions which can harm the ecological system of marine biota.
