WEEK 30 Preparing date: April 06 th 2024 PERIOD 117 Teaching date: April 08 th , 2024 UNIT 17: STORIES FOR CHILDREN LESSON 3 (4, 5, 6) I. OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to: 1. Knowledge and skills - read a story and show understanding of it by ticking True or False; - complete the character map with information about a character from a story; - make a stick puppet and use it to tell a story in class. 2. Competences - Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks. - Self-control & independent learning: perform reading and writing tasks. 3. Attributes - Show their love and interest in reading books, especially Vietnamese fairy tales. - Recognise what the character is like. 4. The disabled: Do the project: Telling a story, following the teacher’s guide. II. MATERIALS - Pupil’s book: Page 51 - Teacher’s guide: Pages 247, 248, 249 - Website hoclieu.vn - Flash cards/ pictures and posters (Unit 17) - Computer, projector, … III. PROCEDURES Teacher’s activities Student’s activities 1. Warm up (5’) a. Objectives - To revise the chant of Unit 17 on page 50. b. Content - Let’s chant. c. Expected outcomes - Pupils can say the chant with the correct pronunciation, word stress and rhythm. d. Organisation - Play the chant for pupils to listen. - Play the chant again for pupils to listen and chant along. Encourage them to clap their hands while chanting. - Call two or more groups to take turns listening to and repeating the chant, while the rest of the class claps their hands. - Pupils listen to the chant. - Pupils listen to the chant again and chant along. Step 2: Do sentence 1 with the class as an example. First, have pupils read the sentence. Then, have pupils find the relevant information in the story. Ask where in the story they can find the information. Explain that pupils need to find the word lived in the story and read the words after that to find the information. Tell them to tick True or False for Sentence 1. Step 3: Set a time limit for pupils to do the rest of the task independently. Go around the classroom and offer help where necessary. Step 4: Get pupils to swap their books with a partner and check their answers before checking as a class. Have pupils read the sentences in the story that help them find the correct information. Expected outcomes - Pupils can tell a story using a stick puppet in class. Step 1: Tell pupils about the goal of the activity. Explain again that they will use the prepared stick puppets to tell the story. Step 2: Have pupils work in groups to prepare for their storytelling. Go around the classroom and offer help where necessary. Step 3: Invite a few pupils to tell the story in front of the class. Praise good performances. - The disabled: Do the project: Telling a story, following the teacher’s guide.
