CYBERBULLYING Unlike traditional bullying - which is often limited to school and known bullies - cyberbullying can occur at any time, day or night, and be perpetrated by anonymous sources. This makes it more relentless and, often, more cruel. Humiliation: When cyberbullying occurs, the nasty posts, messages, or texts can be shared with multitudes of people. The sheer volume of people that know about the bullying can lead to intense feelings of humiliation. Isolation: Cyberbullying sometimes causes kids to be excluded and ostracized at school. Consequently, they often feel alone and isolated. Anger: Many victims of cyberbullying will get angry about what is happening to them. Some kids that are victimized may even plot revenge and engage in retaliation. Suicidal thoughts and self-harm: Sometimes targets of cyberbullying respond to their intense feelings by harming themselves in some way. Depression and anxiety: Cyberbullying also can erode self-confidence and feelings of self-worth, which can contribute to depression and anxiety. o bullying /ˈbʊliɪŋ/ (n) = the use of strength or power to frighten or hurt weaker people: sự bắt nạt o cyberbullying /ˈsaɪbərbʊliɪŋ/ (n) = the activity of using messages on social media, emails, text messages, etc. to frighten or upset somebody: bắt nạt trên mạng, bắt nạt qua thế giới ảo o anonymous /əˈnɑːnɪməs/ (adj) = with a name that is not known or that is not made public: vô danh o nasty /ˈnæsti/ (adj) = unkind; unpleasant: xấu xa o the sheer volume of = large number of ...: số lượng lớn ... o humiliation /hjuːˌmɪliˈeɪʃn/ (n) = a feeling of being ashamed or stupid and having lost the respect of other people: sự xấu hổ, bẽ mặt (vì bị làm nhục) o isolation /ˌaɪsəˈleɪʃn/ (n) = the state of being alone or lonely: sự cô lập o to plot revenge: âm mưu trả thù o suicidal thoughts = having thoughts, ideas, or ruminations about the possibility of ending one's life: ý nghĩ tự tử o depression /dɪˈpreʃn/ (n) = a mental illness in which a person is very unhappy and anxious (= worried and nervous) for long periods and cannot have a normal life during these periods: trầm cảm Source: https://www.verywellfamily.com/what-are-the-effects-of-cyberbullying-460558 SYNONYMS o victims of cyberbullying » kids that are victimized » targets of cyberbullying o self-harm » harming themselves o to lead to ... » to contribute to ...
