PART 6 READING (5 questions) Read the blog and choose the best answer for each question. (5 questions) Jamila's blog Hi everyone. This week, I read an article that said tourism was always bad for the planet and that people had to stop traveling to places for vacations. It made me think about tourism and the environment. At first, I thought that the writer of the article was right. Most tourists usually fly to fascinating holiday locations to admire them, but air travel is bad for the environment. Then, when people visit tourist sites like ancient monuments or castles, they often damage them at the same time by touching them. And they don't just take photographs, but souvenirs as well. And when tourism companies construct things like thrilling roller coasters in beautiful green places, they sometimes destroy peaceful areas of nature completely.
But traveling to tourist areas can be green and good for our Earth if we use trains for long journeys rather than planes, and then walk or cycle when we get to natural sites of beauty. In historic cities, we can take buses, because they carry lots of people at once and many already run on green electricity. Second, we can stay in places that care about nature. Some hotels use less water and energy than others. They recycle things too. It's good to pick these places to stay. Tourists can also help in the areas they visit by always taking their trash back to their hotel, hostel, or campsite. They can also eat the food in local restaurants and cafés. First, the meat, the fish, the vegetables, and the fruit in a local place doesn't usually come from far away, so it's fresher and doesn't need much fuel to get there. Secondly, buying things locally helps the local people, who are often very poor in tourist areas. So now I think that it's really possible to visit beautiful places without hurting our planet. We just need to make smart choices. Let's continue to travel on vacation but keep our world clean and happy! 36. In paragraph 2, the writer gives examples of ______________. A. bad actions by tourists B. good and bad actions by tourists C. good actions by tourism companies D. how to make tourism green 37. Which of these words means the same as "build"? A. Admire B. Damage C. Construct D. Destroy 38. Paragraph 3 is about ______________. A. accommodation B. architecture C. entertainment D. transport 39. What does "it" mean in paragraph 4? A. The fish B. The food C. The fruit D. The meat 40. What does the writer do in this blog? A. Advise her readers B. Give opinions – hers and other people's C. Make suggestions D. All of the above PART 7 LISTENING (5 questions) You will hear part of a talk about tourism. Complete the summary. Write ONE WORD AND / OR A NUMBER in each numbered space.
