Echo Labs Style Guide - 2025 Source: Use names shown/spoken in video only - never research. If unavailable, you may use a descriptive role ([NARRATOR], [STUDENT]). Only use [SPEAKER] as a last resort, if no other descriptive information about the speaker is available. Numbering: If multiple speakers in the video have the same role, you can number the speaker labels. For example, [STUDENT ONE], [STUDENT TWO], etc. 3) Non-Spoken Content General Rules Format: Use parentheses and lowercase (e.g., "(water boiling)"), except for proper nouns (e.g., "(Erin sketching)") Structure: noun + present tense verb/descriptor (e.g., "(door slams)," "(piano playing)") Objectivity: Use objective descriptions only (i.e., observable facts like "monotone" or "rapid"), never subjective evaluations (i.e., personal opinions like "beautiful" or "delightful") No onomatopoeia: Write "(frog croaking)" not "(ribbit ribbit)" Include sounds that: interrupt speakers, cause reactions, convey emotion, or add essential context. Exclude sounds that: don't add meaning (e.g., lip smacking, pen clicking) or last under 5 seconds. Music-Specific Rules Only caption lyrics when: - They're the primary focus (e.g., someone listening/reacting to the song) OR - They're clearly audible and no one is speaking over them
