It covers standard units of measurement, correct measurement techniques, and the classification of motion into linear, circular, and oscillatory types. Students should be able to- 1. Understand the need for standard units of measurement. 2. Identify and use SI units for length (metre, centimetre, millimetre, kilometre). 3. Demonstrate correct techniques for measuring length using various tools. 4. Measure the length of curved lines. 5. Explain the concept of reference points in describing position and motion. Introduction to Measurement (TLOs 1, 2) 1. Discussion on traditional methods of measurement (handspan, stride, etc.) 2. Activity: Measure a table using handspans to demonstrate the need for standard units. Introduction to SI units of length. 3. Correct Measurement Techniques (TLO 3) 4. Demonstration of correct scale placement and eye position when measuring. 5. Activity 5.1: Measure various objects using a metre scale. Measuring Curved Lines (TLO 4) 6. Demonstration of using a thread to measure curved lines. 7. Activity: Measure the circumference of circular objects. Reference Points and Position (TLO 5) 8. Discussion on how reference points help describe position. ▪ Observation skills: Carefully observing and recording measurements and types of motion ▪ Measurement skills: Using various tools to measure length accurately ▪ Classification skills: Categorizing different types of motion ▪ Critical thinking: Understanding the importance of ▪ Quiz on SI units and their conversions ▪ Observation of participation in measurement activities ▪ Peer assessment during group activities on identifying types of motion ▪ Written test covering key concepts (units, measurement techniques, types of motion) ▪ Practical test: Measuring various objects, including curved lines
