Content text Linde Werdelin The Perfect Five.pdf
In late 2008 we decided to apply what, in our minds, was an under appreciated art form to engage with our audience. The aim was to offer readers something to be entertained by rather than the traditional, product-purpose, photographic campaigns merely focused on ‘buy it, buy it and buy it’. Embracing the art of hand-drawn illustrations enabled us to introduce and capture the spirit of what we believe Linde Werdelin is; no other watch manufacturer has managed to combine the art of watchmaking with the performance of digital sports instruments without compromising the integrity of either. By choosing to use beautiful illustrations in a universe - with plenty of skiing, diving and audacious action - we tell our story and idea of watches with attachable instruments for diving and skiing in a way no other watch manufacturer has done before. When we launched the universe, with amongst other things banners in Geneva Airport (someone even contacted us to ask if he could buy them), the response was universally positive. We have since built on the story so that it now is in its third iteration and probably two thirds through the first album. We also wanted to create something fun and intellectually challenging to work with, within the context of making highly crafted watches and instruments; something that could illustrate (literally) the seriousness and the creativeness of developing new ideas of what a Linde Werdelin timepiece can mean to its owner either off or high in the mountain / deep in the sea. In the story, amongst the fictional characters, you will find characters that have come out of real life – now immortalised; people that we come to know and like through our work (soon ten years) at Linde Werdelin. While The Perfect V graphical universe illustrates what Linde Werdelin is about it should be enjoyed without thinking about watches and instruments – appreciating only the story and the beautiful drawings created by Dominique and Thierry (with a little input from us).
