I was just a bit worried about what facilities there will be and what I’ll have to do. I’m especially interested in health and welfare stuff. MAN: Well, you can register with the University Health Centre on North Campus. WOMAN: And do I have to pay for that? MAN: Not to register, but if you have to get medicines, there’s a prescription charge of £6.50. That’s what we recommend for peace of mind, but it’s not compulsory and if you don’t live inside the catchment area, you can’t in fact register there. Where do you live? WOMAN: Well, at the moment I’m staying at the Backpackers Hostel in Hill Street, but I will be moving from there shortly, somewhere nearer. MAN: Well, there’s a map at the centre which shows you the area that the university practice can accept
2 people from. It’s what we call the Yellow Zone. If you live outside that area, you have to find another medical centre to register with. WOMAN: It sounds like I’ll only qualify after I move. MAN: I think you might be right. Then, in addition to the health centre, there’s a free counselling service for all students situated on the North Campus. You don’t have to register. People go there for advice on housing, workload, whatever really. They can even arrange financial help. WOMAN: Is it confidential? MAN: Absolutely. WOMAN: I see. MAN: So it’s basically a free phone line. The number, if you want to make a note, is 0900 762 5913. WOMAN: Fine. Well, I hope I won’t need any of these. Yes. What I will want is access to some gym facilities. MAN: Right. Well, you’ll find those on the South Campus in the Sports Centre. It’s great, but it’s not free. You have to present your student card and pay a fee of £22 to get a pass, but that will last you for the whole year. Part 2. You will hear a teacher talking to a group of students. 3 C. wearing sunglasses D. staying in the sun for too long TRANSCRIPT As you well know, tomorrow is the last day of school. The summer trip takes place in two weeks. So this is the last chance for us to talk about the travel arrangements. Oh, and while I remember, some of you still have to give me a signed letter of permission from your parents. Please get those to me by the end of next week. Right. Now, we’ll all meet here at the school on Saturday 20th June at 9 am. Yes, I know it’s early, but remember it takes about two hours to get to the airport. So, we all meet here, as I said, and a bus will take us from here to the airport. The flight to Malaga takes about three hours, and there will be a bus waiting there to take us to our hotel. Oh yes, I want to remind you about your luggage. Don’t forget that you can only take 20 kilos in your suitcase and one piece of hand luggage weighing 5 kilos. So, no one can take more than 25 kilos altogether. Remember, if you do have more than 25 kilos, you have to pay for it. We’ll be in Malaga for two weeks, and we are going to visit several places of historical and cultural interest. Now, please remember that although this is a holiday, we expect you to follow certain rules. We are going to visit different places every day, so you must not be late. Everyone has to be at breakfast between eight o’clock and half past eight. Mr. James and I will not be very happy if we have to come and wake you up. You will be free in the afternoons to do what you like, but you must let us know where you are going, especially if you are going into Malaga town. I know that you are all looking forward to the sunny weather in Spain, so I expect most of you will go to the beach. I have been asked to say a few words about that. The sun can be dangerous. If you stay out in the sun for too long without protection, you will get sunburn, which can be very, very painful. You are advised to wear loose-fitting clothes that cover your arms and legs. Yes, I know they’re not in fashion, but it’s better than getting burnt. Whatever you do, you must bring a good pair of sunglasses. They are absolutely essential, but make sure you have a good pair with a filter. Finally, you can buy suntan oil or cream as soon as you arrive in Malaga. You can still get sunburn even when it’s cloudy, so make sure you are well protected against the sun at all times. II.
