1 Introduction Currently, with the high rate of smoking, exposure to dust and environmental pollution, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) tends to increase rapidly, especially in developing countries. The disease has had high morbidity and mortality rates in the world as well as in Vietnam. According to the report of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) in 2020, about 3 million people die annually in the world, and it is forecast that about 5.4 million deaths are related to COPD by 2060. According to statistics, Vietnam is estimated to have a COPD incidence rate of 6.7%, that the highest rate in the Asia-Pacific region. Globally, COPD is the fourth leading cause of death. By 2030, it is projected to be the third leading cause of death after ischemic heart disease and stroke. Exacerbation of COPD is an acute event characterized by worsening of respiratory symptoms beyond normal daily fluctuations leading to changes in treatment. The average frequency is about 2.5 - 3 exacerbations/year. Acute exacerbations cause increased mortality in people with COPD, accelerate lung function decline, negatively affect quality of life and increase treatment costs. Therefore, adherenting outpatient treatment at home with inhaled medication, as well as practicing pursed-lip breathing and diaphragmatic breathing are two of the measures for patients in the stable stage that play an pivotal role. However, if not carefully instructed and monitored, patients often do not adherent or do not perform the above contents correctly.
