WEEK 34 Preparing date: May 4 th , 2024 PERIOD 133 Teaching date: May 6 th , 2024 UNIT 20: OUR SUMMER HOLIDAYS LESSON 2 (4, 5, 6) I. OBJECTIVES By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to: 1. Knowledge and skills - Listen to and understand the communicative contexts in which characters talk about places someone has planned to visit and activities he or she plans to do in the summer, and circle the correct pictures to answer the questions. - Complete the target sentence patterns in two conversations about places someone has planned to visit and activities someone has planned to do in the summer with the help of picture cues. - Review vocabulary for places to visit and activities to do for the summer holidays. 2. Competences - Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks. - Self-control & independent learning: perform listening, reading and writing tasks. 3. Attributes - They can remember or imagine places they might visit and all the things they might do during summer break, like playing games, going on trips, or spending time with family. 4. The disabled: Play a game: Who has more correct answer?, following the teacher’s guide. II. MATERIALS - Pupil’s book: Page 67 - Audio Track 98 - Teacher’s guide: Pages 291, 292, 293 - Website hoclieu.vn - Flash cards/ pictures and posters (Unit 20) - Computer, projector, … III. PROCEDURES Teacher’s activities Student’s activities 1. Warm up (5’) a. Objectives To revise the sentence patterns from Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 to ask and answer questions about places someone has planned to visit and activities they have planned to do in the summer. b. Content - Game: “Mr Dog’s summer vacation” c. Expected outcomes - Pupils can correctly say the places Mr Dog has planned to visit and the activities he planned to do in the
summer d. Organisation - Have pupils play this game in 3 teams. - Pupils read the question and and the picture hint, then choose their answer. - If it’s correct, Mr Dog appears and shows the full sentence. Teacher asks pupils to read the full sentence and check their pronunciation. - The pupil who answers correctly will come to the board and throw a dice to get points for his/her team. - Do the same with other questions. - The group that gets more points wins. Praise the winner. 2. Practice Activity 1-4. Listen and circle. (7’) a. Objectives To listen to and understand the communicative contexts in which characters talk about places someone has planned to visit and activities he or she plans to do in the summer, and circle the correct pictures to answer the questions. b. Content - Activity 4. Listen and circle. c. Expected outcomes - Pupils can listen to and understand two communicative contexts in which characters ask and answer questions about places they have planned to visit and activities they will do in the summer. d. Organisation Step 1: Have pupils look at the pictures. Ask What place can you see in each picture? What activity can you see in each picture? - Listen the teacher’s instructions - Read the question, choose the correct answer. - Read the full sentence out loud - Throw the dice to get point for team. - Continue playing the game. - Pupils look at the pictures, listen to the teacher and answer the questions.
Step 2: Tell pupils to read Question 1 and look at the three pictures under it. Explain that they will hear a conversation between Nam and Lucy about the places they have planned to visit in the summer. Ask pupils to circle the correct picture to answer the question. Play the recording of the first conversion twice. Step 3: To the same with the second conversation between Linh and Bill about the activities they have planned to do in the summer. Step 4: Ask pupils to work in pairs for their peer-checks before checking as a class. Correct answers and give feedback. Questions: - Where is Nam going to visit this summer? - What is Bill going to do this summer? Audio script: 1. Lucy: Our summer holidays start next week. Nam: Where are you going to visit, Lucy? Lucy: I’m going to visit the beach. What about you, Nam? Nam: I’m going to visit an eco-farm. 2. Bill: What are you going to do this summer, Linh? Linh: I’m going to join a guitar club. Objectives - To complete the target sentence patterns in two conversations about places someone has planned to visit and activities someone has planned to do in - Pupils look at the pictures of Question 1 and listen to the recording and identify the correct picture and tick the correct box. Pupils listen to the recording again to do the task and check their work. - Pupils do the same with the second conversation, listen and tick the correct picture. - Pupils swap books with a partner, then check answers as a class. - Pupils listen to the recording to check their answers again.

Ask them what is missing from the gaps. Have them complete the gaps by finding the clues from the context and the picture. Repeat the same procedure with Conversation 2. Step 3: Get pupils to complete the conversations individually, then ask a few pairs to read them aloud. Check their answers, giving corrections and feedback where necessary.
