Briefly explain the institution of Education, Family, Politics, Government, with their role in the Pakistani society? 1. INTRODUCTION: In sociology, a social institution is a group of people who have come together for a common purpose. These institutions are the building blocks of society, helping to organize and guide human behavior. Examples of social institutions include the family, education systems, religious organizations, and government. Each plays a critical role in shaping our norms, values, and interactions within a community.
2. MEANING OF SOCIAL INSTITUTION: Social institutions are like important building blocks in our society. They are organized rules and ways of doing things that help people live and work together happily. 3. DEFINITION OF SOCIAL INSTITUTION: • According to Bertrand: “Institutions are system of social relationship for meeting various felt human needs.” • According to Maciver and Page: “Established forms or conditions of procedure.” 4. ELEMENTS OF SOCIAL INSTITUTION: In sociology, social institutions have key elements that help them function. These elements include. • Roles: The behaviors expected of individuals in different positions within the institution, like teachers in schools or parents in families. • Norms: The rules and expectations that guide how people should behave in different situations. • Values: The shared beliefs about what is good and important in society. • Statuses: The different positions people can hold within an institution, like student, teacher, or parent. • Social Structures: The organized patterns of relationships and roles that shape the institution.
❖FAMILY AS AN INSTITUTION: 1. INTRODUCTION: Family is a special group of people who care for each other and live together. They share love, help, and learn from one another. Families are like a team, supporting and guiding each member. They create a strong bond that lasts a lifetime, making them an important and wonderful institution in our lives. 2. DEFINITION OF FAMILY: • According to Horton and Hunt: “A kinship grouping which provides for the rearing for children and certain other human needs.” • According to Maciver: “A group defined by sex relationship sufficient precise and enduring to provide for the procreation and up bringing of children.” 3. STRUCTURE OF FAMILY: • Husband and Wife • Father and Son • Father and Daughter • Mother and Son • Brother and Brother • Sister and Sister • Brother and Sister These relationships are determined on the basis of role and status of the members of the family. These bonds of relationship create structure of the family. These members compose a family. 4. TYPES OF FAMILY:
There are several types of families, each with its own structure and dynamics: • Nuclear Family: This type includes two parents (a mother and a father) and their children living together. • Extended Family: This family type extends beyond the nuclear family and includes other relatives like grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins living together or close by. • Single-Parent Family: In this family, one parent (either a mother or a father) raises the children alone due to divorce, separation, death, or choice. • Blended Family: Also known as a stepfamily, this includes a couple and their children from previous relationships, and sometimes their own children together. • Childless Family: A couple who live together without having children. They might focus on careers, personal interests, or have other reasons for not having kids. • Grandparent Family: In this type, grandparents raise their grandchildren, often due to the parents being unable to care for them.
