Content text [IELTS THAO LINH] SAMPLE SPEAKING P2+3 - 5 TOPICS

TOPIC 1: Describe a person you only met once recently and want to know more about Intro: Upon hearing this question, the first person that springs to my mind is a guy I met in an English competition - An, who I really want to get to know more about When: So I could still remember vividly the time I met him, which was around 2 years ago. Back then, I was joining an English competition in which we had to present a topic in English and he was also one of the participants. A person you met once I remember that day, I was quite shy and nervous because it was my first time speaking in front of the public and I was also not really confident about my English speaking skill. While I was sitting in the corner of the waiting room, trying to calm myself down, An noticed me and struck up a conversation with me. He encouraged me to speak and gave me some tips to be more confident when standing on the stage, which was to look at only 1 person and consider them as my fans who really want to listen to my presentation. I was really impressed by the way he calmed me and gave me valuable advice, but when I was about to ask for his Facebook account so that we could stay connected, the event organizer called me and said it was my turn to get on the stage. Later on, something came up and he had to leave the place earlier than expected. Why you want to meet again So ever since then, I haven’t got the chance to see him again, but I really wish that I would meet him again one day. The main reason why I would like to get to know him better is because I want to find out more about how he’s learned English.. Like, he’s super proficient in this language and sounds like an American guy, even though he’s never attended an English course or traveled abroad. That’s why I want to have another talk with him and I believe that I can learn so much from him.
Part 3 1. What should we not talk about when we meet a person for the first time? Based on my observation, we should avoid talking about several things when meeting someone for the first time. So for one thing, I think we should avoid talking too much about personal or sensitive topics, such as asking them how much they earn or how many exes they have, which seems to be not really polite or even disrespectful. For another, I think we should not mention controversial topics such as those related to politics or religions, which can spark heated debates and lead to disagreement as people often have different perspectives and beliefs. 2. What can we do to leave a good impression on people we meet for the first time? Well, I suppose that there’re several ways for us to do so. First of all, I think we should have good manners, like smiling when someone approaches us, or saying “thank you” when someone helps us. For example, if someone holds the door open for us, we should smile and thank them, which can leave a good impression on them. What’s more, I think it’s of paramount importance for us to be a good listener. I mean, we need to pay attention when someone is speaking, which shows that we’re interested in the discussion and respect the other person. 3. What qualities make true friends? Off top of my head is definitely supportiveness. I mean, a good friend will stay by your side through ups and downs, even when you encounter difficulties or when you receive good news. For example, they may cheer you up when you receive a bad score in school or break up with your girlfriend or boyfriend, and they also feel happy for you when you achieve something significant in your life. Also, I think true friends are often on the same wavelength, like they share the same interests and it’s super easy for them to click. 4. Is it important to have the same hobbies and interests when making friends? Actually, I’m in two minds about this. I mean, on the one hand, I think it’s of paramount importance to share the same interests and hobbies with your friends, simply because it’s easier for people to talk with each other. For example, two
friends who love soccer can discuss matches all day and even play together, which can strengthen their bond. However, sometimes differences can make people become true friends too because they can learn from each other and gain some new perspectives. 5. On what occasions do people like to make friends? I think people often make friends on certain occasions. First of all, individuals may make friends when they first enroll in school or start a new job, as they are about to spend lots of time with their classmates or co-workers in the future, so it’s important to get to know each other and build relationships. Also, people may make friends when they participate in a club. For instance, if they join an English competition, it’s gonna be lots of fun to build relationship with people who share the same interest in language learning and knowledge acquisition 6. How do people make friends in VN? Well, tobe honest, I cant speak for everyone in VN, but based on my observation, we, Vnese people, often have several ways when it comes to making friends. One way for us to do so is to join some social groups, such an an English club or a tennis club, where we can meet people who share the same interests with us. What’s more, I think we can make friends through social media, such as Facebook, Tiktok or Instagram. I mean, these platforms allow us to connect with people from different parts of the world and expand our social network
TOPIC 2: Describe something you lost which is important => STORYTELLING (phải cover được yếu tố “important to you”) So, upon hearing this question, I immediately think about a leather watch that I lost, which holds significant sentimental value to me. If I’m not mistaken, this took place quite a few years ago. At that time, I was going on a picnic with my friends, and I was wearing this small leather watch as a perfect accessory for my outfit. To be more specific, It was a gift from my best friend before she migrated to the US. Although this watch is neither expensive nor one-of-a-kind, it was significant to me because it reminded me of our friendship and the precious moments we had together. So, back to our story, it all started when we stopped at a lake for a picnic. I was busy taking pictures and didn't notice when the watch slipped off my wrist. Hours later, when I started to realize things, the watch was far gone, which put me in such a panic mode. My friends and I desperately tried to find it. We looked around the lake and its surrounding areas, hoping it had been lost somewhere nearby. Unfortunately, our effort was not paid off, and as the night came, I started to lose hope. Needless to say, it was such a bad news for me because as I said, this watch was not a normal watch that I wore as an accessory, but rather a symbol for the bond between me and my close friend in the US, that even if we’re living in two sides of the planet, we’ll always think about each other and always be there whenever needed. After that, I did buy another watch that highly resembled the one I lost, but it still made me feel so sad. I guess I learned a great lesson from the loss anyway, which is not to bring something that is too valuable with me on any vacation
