EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY • Any media that can be used in instruction. • Traditionalists view – educational technologies are learning tools that function as an alternative to teachers (Learning FROM technology). • Progressivist view – believe that these are learning tools enhance the teaching and learning process (Learning WITH technology). Five Domains of Educational Technology 1. Design • Instructional System Design • Instructional Strategies • Learner’s Characteristics 2. Development • Print technologies • Audio technologies • Still Visuals • Audio-visual technologies • ICTs • Electronic technologies • Integrated technologies 3. Utilization • Media Utilization • Implementation • Institutionalization • Policies and regulation 4. Management • Project Management • Resources Management • Management of Delivery System • Diffusion of Innovation 5. Evaluation • Problem Analysis • Measurement • Formative Evaluation • Summative Evaluation Five Phases of Using Computers in Education 1. Late 1970’s- Early 1980’s: Programming, Drill, and Practice 2. Late 1980’s- Early 1990’s: Computer Based Training with Multimedia 3. Early 1990’s: Internet-Based Training 4. Late 1990’s- Early 2000: E-Learning 5. Late 2000: Social Software + Free and Open Content ROLES OF ICT IN EDUCATION • Computer as Object of Instruction. This pertains to the role of computer to education as subject matter.

Remote Teaching and Learning • Face to Face – known as “brick and mortar”. Teachers and learners meet in the same location. • Blended Learning – Combination of F2F and online learning. • Distance Education – A method that received by a learner at another geographical location. o Synchronous distance learning – Involves live communication through either chatting online, or even videoconferencing. o Asynchronous distance learning – It allows learners to learn at their own pace. TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING • DepEd Order No. 12, s.2020 presents the delivery modalities that can be adopted by the schools depending on the COVID-19 restrictions. o Modular Distance Learning – Students use self-learning modules (SLM) which can be in print and additional learning resources such as activity sheets and study guides. o TV/Radio-Based Instruction – It uses SLMs that will be presented in the form of video lessons or radio scripts. o Homeschooling – This will be facilitated at home by qualified and trained parents or tutors. ELEMENTS FOR USING TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION 1. Motivation Gaining learner attention Encouraging the learner through production work Increasing perceptions of learner control Technology use as motivation

Unique Instructional Capabilities Linking learners to information sources Enabling learners visualize problems and solutions Tracking learners progress Linking learners to learning tools 3. Support for New Instructional Approaches Cooperative learning Shared intelligence Problem solving and higher- level skills 4. Increased Teacher Productivity 5. Required Skills for an Information Age Technology Literacy Information Literacy Visual Literacy MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES (MOOC) o Offered online. o Often taught by the same professors that teach online college classes. o The course materials are often exactly the same as the course materials provided to college students taking online classes. o Sometimes offered in partnership with colleges and universities. o Offers self-paced study, allowing students to complete coursework and take tests on their schedule. M- assive: - designed for large number of participants O- pen: - mostly with freedom of place, pace and time - accessed by anyone with internet connection - open to everyone without entry qualifications - some courses are free O- nline: - delivered online C- ourse: - offers a full course experience including: Educational content Facilitation interaction among peers

Republic Act 10844- Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Act of 2015 o This was signed on May 23, 2016. o It is a law that created the DICT, an administrative entity of the Executive branch that is responsible in planning, developing, and promoting the national ICT agenda in the Philippines. 2. ICT4E Strategic Plan (Information and Communications Technology for Education) o It is a 5-year plan by Department of Education that aims to develop an ICT-enabled curriculum. There are two stages of the curriculum reform: ▪ Enhancing ICT use in existing curriculum; and ▪ Full integration of ICT in enriched curriculum. THEORIES AND PRINCIPLES IN EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY 1. Dale’s Cone of Experience - is a learning model introduced by Edgar Dale which shows the abstract learning experience at the peak and progresses into the most concrete experiences down to the base.
