LEVEL 1, Unit 9 - THE SEASONS LANGUAGE ARTS Lesson 1
Read with me Review food names. There are hints given to remind students what each food is called. Spend a few minutes reviewing types of food. Fill in the missing letters. Encourage student to create full sentences such as “Orange is fruit.” “Milk is dairy.” “Fish is protein.” etc. pe ______ or_______ fi ____ mi____ bre___
Say it with me: Long or Short vowel? Review short and long vowels. It is important for students to understand this because it is used to explain the different pronunciations of ea and ee words during lesson 1. This concept is challenging as there is no clear rule for this. Students need to memorize which words use which sound. Encourage student to name the words they know. Ask “what do you see?” For each word named, ask is it a long vowel--giving examples of what you mean. tiger swim ape apple ocean octopus unicorn umbrella ice
Repeat with me: Which one is healthy? Unhealthy? Take advantage to remind student what a question is because they will be asked to answer the question or ask a question later in the unit. Ask each question, have student repeat with correct intonation. Model the answers so that students respond with full sentences. This is testing the student’s ability to create and communicate full sentences correctly; it is not simply a vocabulary test which is why short or one word answers should be discouraged. Use gestures and facial expressions to help student understand healthy vs unhealthy and like vs don’t like. What food do you see? Which food do you like?
