READING Reading books benefits both your physical and mental health, and those benefits can last a lifetime. They begin in early childhood and continue through the senior years. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic recommend that parents read with their children beginning as early as infancy and continuing through elementary school years. Reading with your children builds warm and happy associations with books, increasing the likelihood that kids will find reading enjoyable in the future. Reading at home boosts school performance later on. It also increases vocabulary, raises self-esteem, builds good communication skills, and strengthens the prediction engine that is the human brain. The National Institute on Aging recommends reading books and magazines as a way of keeping your mind engaged as you grow older. Although research hasn’t proven conclusively that reading books prevents diseases like Alzheimer’s, studies show that seniors who read and solve math problems every day maintain and improve their cognitive functioning. o to benefit ... /ˈbenɪfɪt/ (v) = to be useful to ..., to improve ...: có lợi cho ... o to last + time = to continue for a particular period of time: kéo dài bao lâu o likelihood /ˈlaɪklihʊd/ (n) = the chance of something happening: khả năng o to find something + adj: cảm thấy thứ gì đó như thế nào (to find reading enjoyable: cảm thấy việc đọc sách thú vị) o to boost school performance: tăng hiệu quả học tập ở trường o to raise self-esteem: nâng cao lòng tự trọng o communication skills: những kỹ năng giao tiếp o Alzheimer’s /ˈɑːltshaɪmərz/ (n) = a serious disease, especially affecting older people, that prevents the brain from functioning normally and causes loss of memory, loss of ability to speak clearly, etc.: bệnh Alzheimer o senior /ˈsiːniər/ (n) = an older person: người cao tuổi o cognitive functioning = refers to a person's ability to process thoughts: chức năng nhận thức Source: https://www.healthline.com/health/benefits-of-reading-books SYNONYMS o to begin in early childhood » to begin as early as infancy o to continue through the senior years » to continue through elementary school years
