Reading Passage 1 "The Amazon rainforest, the world's largest tropical rainforest, spans over eight countries in South America. Known as the 'Lungs of the Earth', it produces around 20% of the world's oxygen and houses an incredibly diverse range of wildlife. Many people live in and around the Amazon rainforest. These include indigenous tribes, who have been living there for thousands of years, and settlers who moved in more recently. Life in the Amazon rainforest is far from easy due to harsh weather conditions, remote location, and threats posed by deforestation. Despite being a treasure trove of biodiversity, the Amazon rainforest faces many threats. Deforestation, largely due to logging and agriculture, has resulted in significant loss of the rainforest over the years. This has not only impacted the wildlife living there but also contributes to climate change. Efforts are being made globally to save the Amazon rainforest. Various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and government bodies are working to protect this ecological gem from further destruction. However, these efforts often face challenges due to political and economic factors." Exercise 1: Multiple Choice Questions 1.
