years, after which they fluctuated slightly and ended at just under $1.60 in 2004. Conversely, Germany’s figure fluctuated from 1994 to 2002, after which it stabilized towards the end of the period at roughly $1.30. Version 2 (rewrite): The line chart illustrates how banana prices changed in four distinct countries in a ten-year period, starting from 1994. What is striking when looking at the graph is that while Japan’s bananas were the most expensive across all countries during most of the period, those in the US were generally the cheapest throughout. It is also notable that France and Germany both exhibited a fluctuating trajectory, but with contrasting patterns. Looking first at Japan, its prices were the highest for most years. A kilo of this fruit cost around $1.8 in 1994, after which prices surged to hit a high of $3 a year later. This is followed by a drop to a low of approximately $1.7 in 2001, and a final recovery to $2.5 by the end, almost reaching its previous peak. By stark contrast, the cheapest bananas were those sold in the US. Prices in this country noticeably rose from $0.8 to roughly $1.2 in 1995, with a subsequent period of stability around that point until the end of the period. It is interesting to note that the only year when US’ prices were not the lowest was 2003, when a sudden drop in France’ figure made their bananas the cheapest. Finally, France and Germany displayed somewhat contrasting trends. Regarding the former, its prices stayed unchanged at around $1.7 for the first four years, before fluctuating between $1 and $1.8, and finally finishing at $1.5 in 2004. Conversely, Germany’s pricing saw a fluctuation at around the $1.3 mark from 1994 to 2003, and then it stabilized at $1.2 until the final year. 3.
