Chapter 1- What's in a Name No. of Periods: 10 Gist of Lesson Targeted Learning Outcome (TLO) Teaching learning Planned Activities Subject Competencies/Skills Suggested activity for Evaluation/Assessment This lesson uses a story and various activities to introduce concepts related to numbers and counting:  One-to-one correspondence (matching cows with marks)  Problem-solving (finding missing cows)  Number names and their lengths.  Grouping objects based on different criteria  Students will be able to understand the concept of one-to-one correspondence.  Students will be able to solve simple addition and subtraction problems (represented by adding/removing marks).  Students will be able to identify and compare the lengths of number names (number of letters).  Students will be able to classify objects 1. What's in a Name?- Read the story about Deba and Deep using marks on the wall to keep track of their cows. 2. Discuss the concept of one-to-one correspondence. 3. Problem-solving: Ask students why Deba and Deep were worried in the second scenario (missing cows). How many cows reached home? 4. Forming Teams: (longest vs. shortest). 5. Comparing Names: Discussion about who has a longer name in a pair or small group. 6. Analyzing Names: Write their friends' names, identify longest/shortest, starting letter, and number of names with the same starting/ending letters. 7. Number Names and Roll Numbers: Using number cards and the number of letters in their number names.  Knowledge and Understanding: Students learn about one-to-one correspondence, number names, and classification.  Ability to Compute: Students practice basic addition and subtraction (represented by adding/removing marks).  Problem Solving Ability: Students solve the problem  Counting and Grouping Activity: Provide set of objects (unifix cubes, buttons, etc.) and ask them to count the total number of objects.  Group the objects based on different criteria (color, size, etc.).  Explain their grouping logic and how many objects are in each group.  Ask questions- In the story, why did Deba and Deep make marks on the wall? Look around the class. Who has a longer name than you?
