POWER POSING FOR CONFIDENCE Some people are born confident and others aren't, right? Perhaps not. Psychologist Amy Cuddy thinks that we can become more confident simply by changing our body language. Studies have shown that our body language - how we sit, stand and move around - has an important effect on how other people view us. For example, if you cross your arms and look away, people will probably think you're not interested in what's going on. According to Cuddy, your pose can also affect how confident you feel. If you avoid eye contact and hunch your back, you'll feel less confident. So, how can you increase your self-confidence? One way is by doing what Cuddy calls 'the power pose'. Stand up straight, legs apart, with your hands on your hips, and hold this pose for two minutes whenever you need a confidence boost. Afterwards, you should feel much more confident. Power posing is especially useful before job interviews, and it also proves beneficial for public speaking. Changing our body language isn't very hard to do and there are many benefits that come with it.
