The word sovereignty has been derived from the Latin word “Superanus” which means the supremacy of one over the others. 3. GENERAL DEFINITION OF SOVEREIGNTY: ❖ According to jean Bodin. “Supreme authority over citizens unrestricted by Law.” 4. ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF SOVEREIGNTY: ❖ According to Quran. The sovereignty of entire world is belongs to Almighty Allah, and the Allah is alone. 5. OBJECT OF SOVEREIGNTY: The object of sovereignty is to establish and maintain authority over a defined territory, ensuring the government's power to make and enforce laws, protect citizens, and promote the general welfare. 6. ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF SOVEREIGNTY: The Islamic concept of sovereignty is entirely different from the concept of western sovereignty. ❖According to the Quran: “To Allah belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth.” 7. PRINCIPLE OF SOVEREIGNTY: The principle of sovereignty asserts that a state has exclusive authority over its territory, government, and decision-making, independent from external interference, ensuring its self-determination and control over internal affairs. 8. SOVEREIGNTY IN THE LIGHT OF QURAN: ❖ Quran Says,
✓ “The whole command is with Allah in All things” ✓ “The hukm belongs to Allah and Allah is alone” 9. FEATURES OF SOVEREIGNTY: Attributes of Sovereignty can be discussed under following heads. ❖Independence: Sovereignty implies being independent and free from external control or interference. A sovereign state has the ability to govern itself without being subjected to the authority of another state. ❖ Territorial Integrity: Sovereignty ensures that a state's borders are respected and its territory is inviolable. It means that other countries should not invade or encroach upon the sovereign state's land or waters. ❖Self-Determination: Sovereignty allows a nation or people to determine their own political status and pursue their own goals. It grants the right to choose their form of government, economic system, and cultural practices. ❖Equality among States: Sovereignty ensures that all states, regardless of their size or power, are considered equal in the international arena. It means that each state has the same rights and is entitled to be treated with respect and dignity. ❖Exclusive Authority: Sovereignty confers exclusive authority to a state within its borders. It means that the state has the sole right to exercise political, legal, and administrative control over its territory. ❖ Non-Intervention:
Sovereignty protects a state from external interference in its internal affairs. It implies that other states should not meddle in the domestic matters or impose their will on a sovereign state. ❖International Recognition: Sovereignty requires recognition from other sovereign states in the international community. It involves being acknowledged as a legitimate and independent entity by other countries. ❖Responsibility: Sovereignty carries the responsibility of providing governance and ensuring the well-being of its citizens. It implies that the state must fulfill its obligations, protect its people. ❖Permanence: Sovereignty implies enduring authority and permanence of the state. It means that the state's control over its territory and its independence are not temporary or easily revocable. 10.KINDS OF SOVEREIGNTY: Here are five important kinds of sovereignty. ✓ National Sovereignty: National sovereignty means that a country has the right to govern itself without interference from other nations. ✓ Popular Sovereignty: Popular sovereignty emphasizes that political power ultimately comes from the people. It means that citizens have the right to participate in decision-making processes and have their voices heard through voting and other democratic means. ✓ Economic Sovereignty:
