STRUCTURES WITHIN THE PROKARYOTIC CELL Nucleoid ● Region where the cell’s DNA is located. ● Not enclosed by a membrane. Ribosomes ● Complexes that synthesize proteins. Plasma Membrane ● Membrane enclosing the cytoplasm. Cell Wall ● Rigid structure outside the plasma membrane. Glycocalyx ● Outer coating of many prokaryotes, consisting of a capsule or a slime layer. Fimbriae ● Attachment structures on the surface of some prokaryotes. Flagella ● Locomotion organelles of some prokaryotes. 4.0 DIFFERENTIATING EUKARYOTES ● There are two types of eukaryotic cells: 1. Plant Cell 2. Animal Cell 3.1 PLANT VS. ANIMAL CELL FEATURES 3.2 COMMON FEATURES ● The common features between the plant and animal cell are the following: 1. Plasma Membrane 2. Ribosomes 3. Cytoplasm 4. Vacuole 5. Cytoskeleton The features of the eukaryotic cells will be further discussed in the next chapter. WONRIKA ON X | SHS STEM NOTES | CAMPBELL BIO 8TH ED.
