DISEASE Definition – disease is a pathological condition of the body of an organism resulting from various causes and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms. Classification of disease – two types 1. Congenital – at birth 2. Acquired – developed after birth Congenital disease – two types 1. Genetic 2. Non- genetic Acquired disease – different types 1. Metabolic 2. Endocrinal 3. Inflammatory 4. Vascular 5. Degenerative 6. Drug induced 7. Traumatic 8. Tumors BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF HEREDITARY, CONGENITAL, ACQUIRED, MULTIFACTORIAL, TRAUMATIC, AND ENVIRONMENTAL DISORDERS 1. Hereditary diseases - Hereditary diseases are the genetically determined diseases transmitted from parents to their child’s. e.g. - hemophilia, klinefelter’s syndrome, turner syndrome etc. 2. Congenital diseases – congenital diseases are the diseases or defects present at birth. e.g. - Albinism, amniotic band syndrome, Barth syndrome etc.
3. Acquired diseases – acquired diseases are the diseases originating after birth. e.g. – AIDS, cancer, TB, etc. 4. Multifactorial diseases – multifactorial diseases caused by various factors and characterized by an identifiable group of signs or symptoms. e.g. – heart diseases ,type -2 diabetes etc. 5. Traumatic diseases – traumatic diseases are the diseases Caused by external assaults. e.g.- chronic traumatic encephalopathy ,traumatic reticulates , alcohol poisoning, etc. 6. Environmental diseases - Environmental diseases are the disease caused by environmental factors. e.g.- cancer, allergies, asthma, etc. SPERM DISORDERS -Azoospermia – it is a medical condition of not having any measurable level of sperm in semen. -Oligozoospermia – it is a condition of having low concentration of sperm in semen. -Haemospermia – it is a condition of having blood in the semen MENSTRUAL DISORDERS -Menorrhagia – it is an abnormally heavy and prolonged menstrual period at regular intervals. -Amenorrhea – it is the absence of a menstrual period in women of reproductive. -Oligo-menorrhea – it is infrequent menstruation.
-Dysmenorrhea – it is a condition of having pain during menstruation. ICD CLASSIFICATION - ICD is published by the WHO - This system is designed to promote international comparability in the collection, processing, classification and presentation of these statistics. - It is a part of “FAMILY “of guides that can be used to complement each other. - Under this system, any health condition can be assigned to a unique category and given a code up to six characters long. - The ICD is used worldwide for morbidity and mortality statistics, reimbursement system and automated decision support in medicine. - The ICD is revised periodically and is correctly in its tenth edition. Specialty based classification – Oncology, dentistry and stomatology, dermatology, psychiatry 4.Health related classifications – Impairments, disabilities and handicaps procedure reasons for the encounter neurology obstetrics and gynecology rheumatology and orthopedics, pediatrics’, general medical practice.
