Each year in the Spanish city of Pampalona, young men do a very strange and dangerous thing. They bring bulls into the streets and then run in front of them. Why do these men do such a dangerous thing? This is the Running of the Bulls, a tradition in Pampalona. The Running of the Bulls is part of a festival, La Fiesta de San Fermin. The festival started in 1852, and part of the festival is bull fighting. But people of Pampalona needed to move the bulls from the stable arena, which was more than half a mile away. So each year, brave young men stood in front of the bulls. The bulls chased the young men, who ran to the arena. This is how the bulls were brought to the arena for the fights. Over time, the Running of the Bulls grew famous. It was a way for men to test their courage. People came from over Spain to run with the bulls. Soon, people were coming from other parts of Europe and even America to run with the bulls. Running with the bulls is very dangerous, and every year people are injured and sometimes even die.
