Students will practice solving problems using tens frames, number lines, and drawing diagrams. The lesson also introduces estimation and reinforces skip counting skills. Students will be able to • Add and subtract numbers up to 100 using various strategies. • Use tens frames and number lines to solve arithmetic problems. • Develop the ability to estimate sums and differences. • Engage in problem- solving activities using real-life contexts. • Reinforce skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. • Understand and solve word problems 1. Tens Frame Addition and Subtraction: a. Activity: Provide students with tens frames to solve problems like 6 + 8, 5 + 10, 9 - 6, and 18 - 9. b. Exercise: Encourage students to share their strategies and solutions with the class. 2. Card Game for Arithmetic Practice: a. Activity: Students play a card game in pairs, where they draw cards and make addition or subtraction statements to collect cards. b. Exercise: Discuss the strategies used to make correct arithmetic statements. 3. Solving Problems with Number Lines: a. Activity: Use a number line to solve problems like 150 - 50 and 134 - 56. b. Exercise: Students draw jumps on the number line to find solutions and explain their reasoning. 4. Box Diagrams for Problem Solving: • Knowledge: Understanding addition and subtraction. • Understanding: Using tens frames and number lines for arithmetic operations. • Ability to Compute: Performing addition and subtraction up to 100. • Problem-Solving Ability: Applying arithmetic skills to • Observation and Participation: Monitor students during activities and note their participation and engagement. Evaluate their ability to use tens frames and number lines accurately. • Worksheets and Exercises: Provide worksheets with addition and subtraction problems, and word problems.
