York Catholic Teachers Permanent Teacher Collective Agreement Summary Change to Collective Agreement ELEMENTARY Summary Teacher In Charge An elementary school with a 0.5 VP shall have the teacher in charge allowance prorated to 50% of the full allowance. Report Card Writing Days - Elementary Report Cards may be written from home on the PA Day(s) specifically assigned for this purpose. Parent-Teacher Interview Language - Elementary Elementary ● All teachers in a school shall remain at Parent-Teacher interviews for the full 3 hour period on the evening of Report Card Interviews prior to the PA Day. ● The 3 hours is exclusive of the dinner break. ● Interviews will also be scheduled for 1.5 hours on the PA Day ● The remainder of the morning of the PA Day will be used for Board directed Professional Development. ● The remainder of the day shall be used for their own professional learning which can be done at home. ● Complete autonomy will be given over scheduling interviews ● Interview blocks can be extended to no more than two blocks for a particular student and must be noted on the schedule ● All other time slots must be available to Parents ● Where it is not possible due to extenuating circumstances to attend the Parent-teacher interview evening, mutual agreement with the teacher and principal must be reached. 1
Change to Collective Agreement ELEMENTARY Summary School Staff Advisory Committees Additional language added for further transparency. Addition of English As a Second Language (ESL), Hearing(where applicable) and Special Education schedules to the documents that must be provided in order to ensure the Duty schedule is correct. As well, Special Education Student Roster numbers per teacher must be provided. 2
Change to Collective Agreement SECONDARY Summary Pupil Teacher Contact The pupil teacher contact of 170 shall be used as a guideline. The removal of the word guideline with the understanding there may be situations where this cannot be met. This settled the on-going grievance on this matter. Bus Duty Parameters BOARD BARGAINING ITEM Secondary supervision is limited to cafeteria duty, bus duty and on-calls. Addition of: Bus duty may also include exit doors, foyers, atriums/common areas as deemed necessary by school administration. Supervision Review Committee BOARD BARGAINING ITEM A short-term committee will be established to identify and recommend strategies on how best to ensure the safety of students and staff in light of increased numbers of secondary students with eLearn courses who will not be in classrooms with teachers during part of their day. Specific focus will be on the application of cafeteria duty. This review will commence in mid-June 2024. It will include various stakeholders, including but not limited to Board Personnel, Secondary Administrator representative(s), York Unit OECTA and Secondary Teacher representative(s). 3
Change to Collective Agreement SECONDARY Summary Department Headships Changes For Major Status BOARD AND OECTA BARGAINING ITEM ● Guidance Department Heads will be considered Major Heads, regardless of sections in the Department. ● Special Education Department Heads will be considered Major Heads, regardless of sections in the Department ● ESL Department Heads in a school offering ESL subject adapted courses will be considered Major Heads, regardless of sections in the Department. ● Moderns Department Heads in a school offering French Immersion will be considered Major Heads, regardless of sections in the Department. Department Heads Unpaid Leave of Absences BOARD BARGAINING ITEM Department heads who take a personal unpaid leave of absence shall have their position of responsibility held for a maximum of one year. A department head who has been granted a second year unpaid leave of absence loses the right to their department head position. 4
