According to a study in 2014, most people learnt best by combining different styles, even though the VARK learning styles are categorised into four distinct types. The study found that auditory and kinesthetic learning were the most common among participants, while visual learning was the least common. This study highlights an important point: how you learn is not fixed. In reality, people often learn in various ways, and these ways can change throughout their lives. While it can be helpful to have a general understanding of the different learning styles that exist and how you personally learn best, taking a comprehensive approach to your education is really important. Alison Johnson, an academic coach from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), said that strictly sticking to traditional learning styles like VARK may lead to applying the concepts of those styles incorrectly. “Students often take online quizzes to discover their learning style, and what happens is they start saying things like, ‘I'm a hands-on learner' which makes them believe they can't learn in any other way,’ Johnson explained. While traditional styles like VARK provide a good starting point for understanding your individual learning styles, Johnson and the Academic Support team at SNHU support a more comprehensive approach. 1. How many types of learning styles does VARK consist of ____________________________________________________________________. 2. What was the latest common learning style according to the 2014study? ____________________________________________________________________. 3. Do the ways people learn stay the same throughout their lives? ____________________________________________________________________. 4. What may cause the incorrect application of the concepts of learning styles?  ____________________________________________________________________. 5. What can students do to find out their learning style?
