Focus 4: Animal Research There are 5 major biomes or habitats for animals to live in around the world. They are grasslands, aquatic, tundra, forest and desert. Let’s have a look at some of the animals that live in grassland and aquatic habitats. Take notes as some of this information may help you decide what to write about for your essay this week. Grasslands Grasslands are found in Africa, North America, Central Asia, South America, and near the coasts of Australia. Grasslands with a few scattered trees are called savannas. Little rain falls in a grassland biome. Between 25 and 75 cm of rain falls each year, which makes the weather in these savannas hot and sunny in the summer and cool in the winter months. Aquatic The term aquatic can be applied to animals that live in either freshwater (freshwater animals) or saltwater (marine animals). An aquatic animal is an animal, either vertebrate or invertebrate, which lives in the water for most or all of its lifetime. Some aquatic animals can also live on land or breathe air.
