So more than anybody else she was the one most interested in knowing what happened next in the story and used to insist that I read the serial out to her. a. Who is ‘she ‘in the above lines? Ans. She in the above lines is Sudha Murty’s grandmother, Krishtakka. b. Why was she ‘the most interested’ in knowing the next development in the story? Ans. She was most interested in the development of the story because she identified herself with the chief protagonist of the story. c. Why did she insist that the story be read out to her? Ans. Since she was illiterate and could not read the novel herself, she insisted that its story should be read out aloud to her. 2. At times I used to regret not going to school, so I made sure that my children and grandchildren studied well... a. Who is ‘I’ in the above lines? Ans. ‘I’ is krishtakka, Sudha Murty’s grandmother.
b. Why did she regret ‘not going to school’ at times? Ans. She regretted not going to school because she too wanted to be able to read and write like her children and grandchildren but household chores and care of family never left her with enough time for school. c. All your hair is grey, your hands are wrinkled, you wear spectacles and you work so much in the kitchen..... Childishly I made fun of the old lady. a. Who is the ‘old lady’ in the above extract? Ans. The old lady is Sudha Murty’s grandmother. b. Why did the narrator make fun of the old lady?
Ans. The narrator thought that at 62, the old lady was too old to learn to read. c. How did the ‘old lady’ react to the narrator’s comment? Ans. She just smiled and laughed it off. 5.
