NEET BIOLOGY STUDY MATERIAL VIII - OLYMPIAD SYNOPSIS-3 FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM Continuation to page no. 82 Embryo development: 1. The fertilized ovem undergeies mitotic divisions while it moves down the oviduct and finally attackes to the soft tissues of the uterus, sinks into the soft inner uterine walls. This is called “Embryo implantation”. 2. Then certain cells of the embryo develop into membranous structures. They are chorion, amnion placenta allantois, yolk sac. 3. Chorion : tiny finger like projections grow from the surface of the outer membrane called chorion. 4. Placenta : It is the tissue formed by the cells from the embryo and the mother It is formed 12 weeks of pregnancy and supplies important nourishement to the embryo 5. Amnion : It grows around the embryo it self The cavity with in the amnion filled with fluid called amniotic fluid It keeps the embryo moist and protects it from minor mechanical injury. 6. Allontiois : It has a long tubular structure called umblical cord It contains important blood vessels that correct the embryo with the placenta. It plays important role in supplying the food materials from mother to child Yolk sac: 1. It encloses a fluid filled cavity. 2. It has no specific functions in placental manmmals Child birth: 1. Child birth begins when the muscle layer of the uterus starts to cantract and relax rhythemically these actions are called labour pain. 2. These contractions of the muscles became stronger and more frequent and the baby is pushed out of the body through the vagina 3. During the end of the pregnancy a watery yellowish lymph like fluid called “Colostrum” accumulates in the mammary glands. 4. For the first few days after the baby is born the mammary glands secret only colostrum. 5. It is very important to feed this to the new born baby. 6. It helps in developing the immunity system of the child. WorkSheet-3 Continuation to page no. 84 15.
