Music is important to people of all ages. Today, five different generations enjoy music in different ways. The oldest group, born between 1928 and 1945, likes big bands and old songs. They played records on record players. The next group, born between 1946 and 1964, loves rock music. They collected many vinyl records and went to concerts. These people remember buying their first albums in music stores and playing them with friends. The middle group, born between 1965 and 1980, used cassette tapes. They recorded songs from the radio and made playlists. They also watched music videos on TV. This was new and exciting. The younger group, born between 1981 and 1996, started with CDs but moved to digital music. They downloaded songs from the internet and carried thousands of songs in small MP3 players. This was very different from the big record collections of older people. The youngest group, born after 1997, mostly uses streaming services. They can listen to any song at any time on their phones. They don't need to buy or own music. Many young people today have never bought a CD or record. However, some young people are now buying vinyl records again. They think these old records sound better. When families get together, they often share their favorite music with each other.
