Grade 3 English – Practice 3016b Including VR 3004a Term 2 Week 9 – Week 18 Remind students to use the spelling list and reading list/record available from the Yr. 3 Google Drive, which can be accessed via https://exams.institute/ Last lesson for Term 2. Term 3 begins 26th July 2025. Students are asked whether there were any difficult or tricky questions from last week’s homework (Practice 15). Warm-up Exercise Choose a word from one of the readings or spelling lists or use the one supplied and get the children to make as many words as possible. They can rearrange the letters to make the words. Words need to be 3 letters or more. Set a goal for children to better themselves. For example, 0-5 words - good 6-10 - great 11-15 words - wonderful 15+ awesome. This can be done when children are correcting their spelling or when marking the roll. How many words can you make from - ‘brainstorm’? There are 530 words that can be made from the word brainstorm. Part 1 Task 1: Vocabulary: Which Word is Missing? Students will need to read each paragraph very carefully and select the appropriate word from the four choices given. Students will be reminded that the word must make sense, and they are strongly encouraged to use a dictionary to look up any unfamiliar words. Part 2: Reading Comprehension Passage 1: Dirty Minghua 1. Students are selected to read through the passage. 2. Complicated words or phrases are discussed by asking students if they know the word’s meanings. E.g., “What do you think ‘perspiration’ means?” Students are asked to write down notes and jot down unfamiliar word meanings. They are also encouraged to use a dictionary for any other words they are not sure about. Words or phrases that might need further explaining: Caked with mud Covered in mud or dirt. Peter Pan was originally a play that opened in London in 1904. It was later adapted into a book in 1911, so some of the language in the extract might be a little bit old-fashioned. 2.
