PHARMD GURU Page 1 INTRODUCTION TO DRUG PRICE CONTROL ORDER: The Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1995 is passed by the Central Government in conformity of powers given under Section 3 of “Essential Commodities Act, 1955”. It came into force on dated 6th January, 1995 repealing the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1987. OBJECTIVES: The Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1995 has been passed with the following objectives:  To implement provisions of new drugs policies announced in September, 1994.  To exercise Government control over the prices of „Bulk Drugs‟ and „Drug Formulations‟, making them available at fair prices.  To regulate production and distribution of bulk drugs and formulations.  To maintain and improve supplies of bulk drugs and formulations.
