Students should be able to: • Identify and describe the main components of food (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and water). • Explain the functions of different nutrients in the body. • Conduct simple tests to detect the presence of starch, fats, and proteins in food items. • Define and understand the importance of a balanced diet. 1. Introduction to Food Components - Group discussion: Share what know about different food components. Interactive presentation: Explains the main nutrients, their functions, and sources. 2. Food Diversity in India – Activity: Create a map of India marking traditional foods of different states. Discussion: How geography and climate influence food habits. 3. Nutrient Testing - Hands-on activity: Conduct tests for starch, fats, and proteins on various food items. Record observations and discuss results. 4. Balanced Diet - Group activity: Analyze weekly diet and suggest improvements for a balanced diet. Create a balanced meal plan for a day. • Scientific inquiry: Conducting simple experiments to test for nutrients • Critical thinking: Analyzing diet and suggesting improvements • Cultural awareness: Understanding food diversity across India • Environmental consciousness: Recognizing the impact of food choices on the environment • Formative Assessment: Quiz on nutrient functions and sources Observe student participation.
